FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Three Townships Awarded Sewage Facilities Grants, Vance SaysHARRISBURG – Almost $9,500 in Sewage Facilities Enforcement Grant recently were awarded to Monroe, Upper Mifflin and Lower Frankford townships, said Sen. Patricia Vance (R-Cumberland/York). "This grant program assists municipalities in making sure septic systems achieve uniform standards by helping meet the financial burdens of enforcing system requirements," Vance said. "Uniform standards help prevent contamination from septic systems, which can pollute the environment." Sewage Facilities Enforcement Grants are used to reimburse 50 percent of eligible expenses for performing state sewage regulations. Monroe Township received $8,804. Upper Mifflin Township was awarded $385, and Lower Frankford Township received $248. The state sewage regulations are outlined in the Pennsylvania Sewage Facilities Act (Act 537). This act was formed to correct existing sewage disposal problems and prevent future problems through proper planning of all types of sewage facilities and permitting of individual or community onlot disposable systems (OLDS), as well as uniform standards for designing OLDS. Vance's district includes all of Cumberland County and Carroll, Fairview, Franklin, Monaghan, Warrington and Washington townships and Dillsburg, Franklintown and Wellsville boroughs in York County. |
