FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE State's Rare Book Collection Spotlighted in Vance TV ProgramHARRISBURG – Sen. Pat Vance's (R-Cumberland/York) June edition of the Vance Report features a tour of the state's rare book collection at the state library in Harrisburg. The collection will be moved in the coming months to three new high-tech vaults that will preserve the books, newspapers and periodicals through a state-of-the-art environmental control system. The television program includes a visit to both the location where the collection currently is housed and the new vault area. "This collection is unique in that it includes the original General Assembly Library, which was purchased for the Legislature by Ben Franklin," Vance said. "The oldest book within the rare book collection is a copy of the Nuremburg Chronicle, which is printed in German and published in 1493. Many Pennsylvanians probably aren't aware this treasure is located only a short distance away." Vance's show airs on Blue Ridge Communications at 6 p.m. on Tuesdays on Channel 8. Comcast Cable that serves the Shippensburg area will air the program at 4 p.m. on Thursdays on Channel 21. Comcast Cable that serves the Carlisle area will air the show at the same time but on Channel 11. York Community Access shows the program at 9 p.m. on the second Tuesday of the month on Channel 16. Finally, Comcast Cable in the Greater Harrisburg area will air the program on Channel 20 with no set time schedule. Vance's district includes all of Cumberland County and Carroll, Fairview, Franklin, Monaghan, Warrington and Washington townships and Dillsburg, Franklintown and Wellsville boroughs in York County. |
