Sewage Facilities Grant Awarded to Upper Mifflin, Vance Says

HARRISBURG – An almost $18,000 Sewage Facilities Planning Grant recently was awarded to Upper Mifflin Township, said Sen. Pat Vance (R-Cumberland/York).

"Through this grant program, we are able to assist municipalities in the financial costs associated with creating or updating plans that ensure the adequate operation and maintenance of sewage facilities," Vance said. "Properly operating sewage facilities lower the chances of contaminant to the environment, which prevents health risks."

Sewage Facilities Planning Grants are used to reimburse 50 percent of the cost of preparing official sewage plans and revisions to the plans for sewage systems, which is required under state regulation. Upper Mifflin Township received $17,831.

The state sewage regulations are outlined in the Pennsylvania Sewage Facilities Act (Act 537). This act was formed to correct existing sewage disposal problems and prevent future problems through proper planning of all types of sewage facilities and permitting of individual or community onlot disposable systems (OLDS), as well as uniform standards for designing OLDS.

Vance's district includes all of Cumberland County and Carroll, Fairview, Franklin, Monaghan, Warrington and Washington townships and Dillsburg, Franklintown and Wellsville boroughs in York County.
