FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Shippensburg Area Orchard Focus of Vance's October ProgramHARRISBURG – The October edition of the Vance Report will spotlight Toigo Orchards near Shippensburg, said Sen. Pat Vance (R-Cumberland/York). The orchard, owned by Clarence Tiogo, consists of 300 acres near the homestead in Southampton Township. This land has been in continuous operation as a farm since the 1700s. Toigo and his son, Mark, own another 250 acres in Franklin County. Melons and a variety of fruit, including apples, pears and peaches, are grown on the properties. Toigo Orchards is famous for its tomatoes, which are used to produce foods such as fresh fire roasted salsa and tomato pasta sauce with Vodka cream and cheese. "It seems very appropriate to be visiting Toigo for the October program as it is Apple Month across the nation," Vance said. "While Toigo Orchards participates in many farmer's markets in the Washington D.C. area, those who live in the Harrisburg area can visit the farm on South Mountain Estates Road or the Carlisle Central Farmer's Market to sample the orchard's products." Vance's show airs on Blue Ridge Communications at 6 p.m. on Tuesdays on Channel 8. Comcast Cable that serves the Shippensburg area will air the program at 4 p.m. on Thursdays on Channel 21. Comcast Cable that serves the Carlisle area will air the show at the same time but on Channel 11. York Community Access shows the program at 9 p.m. on the second Tuesday of the month on Channel 16. Finally, Comcast Cable in the Greater Harrisburg area will air the program on Channel 20 with no set time schedule. Vance's district includes all of Cumberland County and Carroll, Fairview, Franklin, Monaghan, Warrington and Washington townships and Dillsburg, Franklintown and Wellsville boroughs in York County. |
