Turkey Farm, Ashcombe Highlighted in Vance Program

HARRISBURG – The November edition of the Vance Report will spotlight Strock's Farm Fresh Meats and Ashcombe Farm and Greenhouse, both located in Mechanicsburg, said Sen. Pat Vance (R-Cumberland/York).

Strock's is one of the few farms that still raises, butchers and sells turkeys directly to the public. The business also does catering. Ashcombe's includes a plant nursery, garden supplies and a variety of gift items, in addition to its bakery, deli and casual gourmet food.

"As the year comes to a close, many people are focused on Thanksgiving and the December holidays," Vance said. "Thanksgiving to most people means turkey and family. We are very fortunate to still have a farm in Cumberland County where you can purchase a fresh turkey.

"For more than 50 years, area residents have been coming to Ashcombe's," Vance added. "Initially, the business sold fruits and vegetables, but then branched out to a variety of products. While many still think of Ashcombe in the spring for their plants, the business has a variety of holiday items for gift ideas or home decoration."

Vance's show airs on Blue Ridge Communications at 6 p.m. on Tuesdays on Channel 8. Comcast Cable that serves the Shippensburg area will air the program at 4 p.m. on Thursdays on Channel 21. Comcast Cable that serves the Carlisle area will air the show at the same time but on Channel 11. York Community Access shows the program at 9 p.m. on the second Tuesday of the month on Channel 16. Finally, Comcast Cable in the Greater Harrisburg area will air the program on Channel 20 with no set time schedule.

Vance's district includes all of Cumberland County and Carroll, Fairview, Franklin, Monaghan, Warrington and Washington townships and Dillsburg, Franklintown and Wellsville boroughs in York County.
