Cumberland County Awarded Pollution Prevention Grant, Vance Says

HARRISBURG – A $27,799 Pennsylvania Small Business and Household Pollution Prevention Grant recently was awarded to Cumberland County for a collection event held last year at Eagle View Middle School in Mechanicsburg, said Sen. Pat Vance (R-Cumberland/York).

"More than 12,000 people have dropped off 565 tons of household hazardous waste since Household Hazardous Waste events began in Cumberland County in 1998," Vance said. "By disposing of this waste in an appropriate fashion, Cumberland County residents have showed they care about their environment. I would encourage anyone with household hazardous waste to participate in the next scheduled collection set for June 7 and 8 at the Cumberland County Service Center on Allen Road in Carlisle."

The grant will be used to reimburse 50 percent of the costs for developing and operating a Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) collection event at the school. The event was held Oct. 20, 2007.

Vance's district includes all of Cumberland County and Carroll, Fairview, Franklin, Monaghan, Warrington and Washington townships and Dillsburg, Franklintown and Wellsville boroughs in York County.
