FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Four Townships Awarded Sewage Facilities Grants, Vance SaysHARRISBURG – More than $11,000 in Sewage Facilities Enforcement Grant recently were awarded to East Pennsboro, Southampton, Upper Frankford and Franklin townships, said Sen. Pat Vance (R-Cumberland/York). "By making sure sewer regulations are followed, the chance of pollution is greatly reduced," Vance said. "It is important on-lot disposal systems are installed properly. Sewage pollution can harm not only people, but also the environment." Sewage Facilities Enforcement Grants are used to reimburse 50 percent of eligible expenses for performing state sewage regulations. East Pennsboro Township received $4,563. Southampton Township was awarded $3,536, while Upper Frankford Township received $672. Finally, Franklin Township was awarded $2,440. The state sewage regulations are outlined in the Pennsylvania Sewage Facilities Act (Act 537). This act was formed to correct existing sewage disposal problems and prevent future problems through proper planning of all types of sewage facilities and permitting of individual or community on-lot disposable systems (OLDS), as well as uniform standards for designing OLDS. Vance's district includes all of Cumberland County and Carroll, Fairview, Franklin, Monaghan, Warrington and Washington townships and Dillsburg, Franklintown and Wellsville boroughs in York County. |
