Williams Grove Steam Engine Association Highlighted in Vance Program

HARRISBURG – The September edition of Vance Report features the Williams Grove Historical Steam Engine Association (WGHSEA) in Monroe Township, said host Sen. Pat Vance (R-Cumberland/York).

In its 51st year, the WGHSEA holds a variety of events throughout the year to preserve steam powered equipment and educate the public about the history of farming. It is best known for its Fall Show the week prior to Labor Day. Other events include periodic steam train rides, October haunted hayrides, tractor pulls, steam engine school and consignment sales.

"It was amazing to see so many steam engines in one location at the Fall Show," Vance said. "While it was very loud, the noon whistle that the engines blew harked back to earlier days when it was used to set clocks. Members of the steam engine association should be commended for all the work they put in to keep these engines alive for future generations."

Vance's show airs on Blue Ridge Communications at 6 p.m. on Tuesdays on Channel 8. Comcast Cable that serves the Shippensburg area will air the program at 4 p.m. on Thursdays on Channel 21. Comcast Cable that serves the Carlisle area will air the show at the same time but on Channel 11. York Community Access shows the program at 9 p.m. on the second Tuesday of the month on Channel 16. Finally, Comcast Cable in the Greater Harrisburg area will air the program on Channel 20 with no set time schedule.

Vance's district includes all of Cumberland County and Carroll, Fairview, Franklin, Monaghan, Warrington and Washington townships and Dillsburg, Franklintown and Wellsville boroughs in York County.
