Vance Announces Three Sewage Facilities Grants Awarded

HARRISBURG – Almost $9,000 in Sewage Facilities Planning Grants recently were awarded to Carroll, Franklin and Warrington townships, said Sen. Pat Vance (R-Cumberland/York).

"These grants play a key role in crafting and updating sewage plans," Vance said. "Without adequate plans, possible environmental contamination increases substantially as infrastructure can deteriorate."

Sewage Facilities Enforcement Grants are used to reimburse almost 43 percent of eligible expenses for preparing official sewage plans and revisions to the plans for sewage systems, which is required under state regulation

Those receiving grants are:

• Carroll Township – $3,335
• Franklin Township – $1,212
• Warrington Township – $4,163

The state sewage regulations are outlined in the Pennsylvania Sewage Facilities Act (Act 537). This act was formed to correct existing sewage disposal problems and prevent future problems through proper planning of all types of sewage facilities and permitting of individual or community on-lot disposable systems (OLDS), as well as uniform standards for designing OLDS.
