Four Cumberland County Government Entities Awarded Recycling Grants, Vance Says

HARRISBURG – Almost $700,000 in Recycling Development and Implementation Grants were recently awarded in Cumberland County, said Sen. Pat Vance (R-Cumberland/York).

"By providing a variety of recycling opportunities, it is easier for residents to discard trash in a responsible way," Vance said. "While there is much focus on recycling of paper, aluminum and plastic, thousands of tons of leaves and other lawn waste can be recycled through composting to create valuable mulch to feed trees, plants and shrubs."

Those receiving grants were:

  • Camp Hill – $112,093 for its yard waste program.
  • Cumberland County Recycling and Waste Authority – $23,057 for community events recycling.
  • Hampden Township – $128,395 for its yard waste program and curbside recycling.
  • Middlesex Township – $408,773 for its yard waste program.

This grant program reimburses counties and municipalities 90 percent of eligible recycling program development and implementation expenses. Priority for this funding round included incentive-based programs, alternative-fuel vehicles, multi-government projects and new fiber collection/processing programs.

Vance's district includes all of Cumberland County and Carroll, Fairview, Franklin, Monaghan, Warrington and Washington townships and Dillsburg, Franklintown and Wellsville boroughs in York County.
