October 26, 2008 - The Boy Scouts of America, Keystone Council, Adventure District, held its first annual Soapbox Derby. Sen. Pat Vance, center, is joined by Jonas Tenney, Adventure District Executive, and Mike Hassell, Adventure District Chairperson at the Derby. Participant received a patch for their efforts.

Sen. Pat Vance recently participated in the 28th Annual Super Saturday in South Middleton Township. She joined others in assisting to begin the Rubber Ducky Regatta. Sen. Pat Vance hosted the Camp Hill High School Boys Baseball team at the Capitol in late June. The team won the 2008 PIAA Class A Championship.

The Cumberland Valley High School Boys Volleyball team visited the Capitol in June. The team won the PIAA Class AAA Volleyball Championship. Team members and coaches were recognized by the state Senate. Sen. Vance is pictured with the team on the steps in the Rotunda.

Sen. Pat Vance joined with her colleagues on May 20 in unveiling a tax stimulus package that would provide nearly $96 million in tax relief in the upcoming fiscal year. Vance's bill (Senate Bill 1387) would double the amount that small businesses may deduct as Section 179 expenses on their income tax filings.

Students from Cedar Cliff High School in the West Shore School District participated in the first Classrooms for the Future Student Capitol Day. Students show Sen. Vance a project they have been working on through the program.

Sen. Pat Vance presents a medal to Isabela Wilson at the end of the children’s race portion of Randi’s Race in May 2008. The annual 5K walk/run is in memory of Randi Trimble, who was a victim of domestic violence and was murdered in January 2003.  Proceeds from the event benefits Domestic Violence Services of Cumberland and Perry Counties. This year’s walk/run will be held on May 9. For more information contact Lisa at 258-4806.

Sen. Pat Vance recently participated in a news conference marking the occasion of the first payments made as part of the Pennsylvania Persian Gulf Veterans Benefit Program. The program was approved by Pennsylvania voters through referendum. It allows eligible veterans or beneficiaries to receive a one-time benefit of $75 for each month of active service, up to $525. Survivors of veterans who died as a result of service-connected wounds, diseases or injuries may be eligible for an additional $5,000.

Sen. Pat Vance participated in the Pennsylvania State Nurses Association news conference on May 6 in the Capitol Rotunda. The event was part of National Nurses Week.
